The Bible is its own best teacher. The Bible however is not arranged like an encyclopedia. You cannot go to chapter 1 and read everything about God and go to chapter 2 to read everything about Jesus, etc. Remember when reading the Bible the verses and chapter breaks are placed in the scriptures by man. It is better to read by paragraph, these too are man-made but they do conform better to the original language than verses. Some ground rules need to be set up first:
Pray first before opening God's word. Ask for guidance and to be able to accept what is written and to be able to apply His will to your life.
Never, never read the Bible trying to proof your belief on any subject. It is only human nature to take ideas out of context.
When you are reading and come across something that does not make sense, reread the paragraph or chapter again. If you still do not understand, write down the problem area and continue onward. You may discover the answers later in your reading.
Do not read large amounts of the Bible in one setting. Take breaks often or stay with about 2-4 chapters a day.
Start with the New Testament, people who start with the Old Testament almost never read the Bible all the way through. The New Testament is what is binding on us today. We need to follow God's will for us today.
Forget everything you have ever heard about Jesus, God and the Bible before you start reading the Bible. Don't take what you want it to say with you first.
Now with those in mind, let's lay out the way to read the Bible to let it build on itself:
Read "John." (It contains a lot of the life of Jesus not before read, especially his last two weeks before the crucifixion.)
Read "Matthew." (It goes into better detail of some events and adds more about Jesus.)
Read "Mark." (It is written in chronological order.)
Read "Luke" then "Acts." (Both written by Apostle Paul's traveling companion Luke. Acts is a continuation of Luke. It describes the early church and contains the examples of New Testament conversions.)
Read "Galations." (It deals with the reasons why we do not follow the Old Testament Laws in a more simplified way than does Romans or Hebrews.)
Then read the rest of the New Testament starting at Romans and going to Revelation.

We are living in an age of constant technical advancements. Each new discovery is intended to give us more “free” time to relax and “smell the roses.” However, we are finding it increasingly more difficult to do the things that we really want to do. Just A Moment is intended to give us all a few minutes of Biblical preparation for each day as well as to present a challenge to grow in our confidence and trust in an Awesome God.
Just A Moment is a compilation of editorial portions that were used for my church bulletin over a number of years. They were designed to coincide with the sermon of the day to put into writing some of the things that were being said from the pulpit. I trust that you will discover these to be a life-strengthening resource for your daily experience. Some of the articles also summarize experiences that many Pastors encounter in the course of ministry in a needy world. I have had the opportunity to be a part of what God has been doing in the wonderful country of Argentina as well as serving in Pastoral ministry in Canada. Fifty years of serving the Lord has unquestionably left a great impression upon my own life. I trust that this is obvious through many of the daily readings. God has been good to us in providing for our needs, in granting us guidance and wisdom for a variety of experiences, in providing health and strength and in giving us the privilege of being His representatives in various parts of the World. No question about it… God is good!
Thanks to all who had a part in supporting our ministry and at times “enduring” these sermons that were designed to teach, encourage, sometimes reprove and always to be what the Lord wanted to say.
Let your heart be blessed as you peruse the passages and the themes each day. May you also find the Spiritual food that the Word of God was designed to give to those who would hunger and thirst after righteousness. Rev. Garry H. Fricker

Charles H. Spurgeon Morning & Evening Devotional
WHAT SHALL I DO?
Be Available – Abandon yourself to God and to His call on your life. Tell Him you will go
anywhere and do anything that He shows you as His will for you.
Be Informed – Don’t hide behind ignorance. Gather all the information you can so you
can pray and seek the Lord intelligently. Subscribe to missions publications and make
it a priority to know what’s going on in the world. If you know where the needs are,
it will be easier for you to meet some of them.
Be Inspired – Checkout our booklist and get hold of some inspiring biographies of
Christian missionaries. You will find out that most “missionary greats” are just common
people who decided to let their love for God and their love for the lost overrule their
own desires in life – allowing God to use them in bold and wonderful ways.
Expect An Open Door – Expect God to give you an opportunity to fully serve Him
through this new information you are exposing yourself to. Then when He opens the
door – walk through it!
Read Slowly read the passage listed. The passages are relatively short, so take time to consider each phrase. If you do not understand something, you might refer to your Bible's study notes.
Apply Ponder the brief interpretation in light of the passage. What is the biblical writer trying to say? What is the main point? Using the thought-provoking questions, seek the Spirit's guidance
regarding your own response to the passage. These are not quick fill-in-the-blank questions; they are intended to cause you to slow down and meditate on the truth God is teaching you. How does the biblical teaching apply to your life? Where do you need to grow or change? How has Christ already changed you?
Pray for a genuinely transformed life enabled to live as Christ lived. You might use this time to pray for other issues as well. Praise Christ for his goodness.
Do Daily suggestions that help drive the message in practical ways deep into your heart and life.
How readiest thou? (An insightful poem on Bible study)
It is one thing to read the Bible through,
Another thing to read to learn to do.
Some read it with design to learn to read,
And to the subject pay but little heed.
Some read it as their duty once a week,
But no instruction from the Bible seek;
While others read it with but little care,
With no regard to how they read, nor where.
Some read to bring themselves into repute,
By showing others how they can dispute;
While others read because their neighbors do,
To see how long 'twill take to read it through.
Some read it for the wonders that are there,
How David killed a lion and a bear;
While others read it with uncommon care,
Hoping to find some contradictions there.
Some read as if it did not speak to them,
But to the people at Jerusalem.
One reads with father's specs upon his head,
And sees the thing just as his father said.
Some read to prove a pre-adopted creed,
Hence understand but little that they read;
For every passage in the Book they bend,
To make it suit that all-important end.
Some people read, as I have often thought,
To teach the Book instead of being taught;
And some there are who read it out of spite;
I fear there are but few who read it right.
But read it prayerfully, and you will see,
Although men contradict, God's words agree;
For what the early Bible prophets wrote,
We find that Christ and His apostles quote.
So trust no creed that trembles to recall
What has been penned by one and verified by all.
